So now we know, Nikon has the D800 and D4 (maybe another before year end?) and Canon has just announced the new 5D Mklll - so are you moved to upgrade? Does the spec of any one of them make you feel that you're going to have to shell out?

From the spec of the 5D3, nothing on it would assist me to make better images for the work I do. Granted, there are some very desirable new features such as the ISO range and the improved AF and metering, but to be honest I am getting accustomed to making allowances for my 5D2, and what's more, when I use it, it feels so right in my very arthritic hands.

No plans to go to D4 or D800 here either. D4, like its predecessors is too big for my small hands, I prefer a grip that I can remove when I need something smaller, and whilst the D800 has a few interesting bits, nothing that would inspire me to upgrade to it. I think I will be looking to exchange my D300 for another D700, but that'll be it for me.
 
1DX not listed? I don't need a full frame camera personally. I am more interested in the 7D replacement, or a 1D4.
 
As I have my eye on another Zeiss MF lens, a body upgrade can wait, which means I can wait and see if they replace the D300 with a super dooper crop sensor jobby .... imaginatively monikered the D400 :D
 
no plans to upgrade, but I do like the d800 a lot. I thinks going to be a hell of a camera for the money. I do wish Nikon had let me put a memory card in it when they let me play with one though

i'll probably upgrade in a year or so when the price of the 5d3 has dropped.

the main problem most people had with the 5d2 - the af - has been addressed and whilst i've worked around the small number and awkwardly positioned focus points of the 5d2 pretty well it can be frustrating and limiting at times. more focus points is most welcome.

i can't see there being much of an improvement in IQ at the lower ISOs, certainly not £3000 quid worth of improvement - it would simply be an upgrade to get the better af. the faster fps would be nice, but for me, the biggest limitation is not the fps limit on the mk2, but the fact that in raw the buffer fills up too quickly. for my purposes, the fps rate on the 5d2 was fine anyway.

looks like an excellent camera though, i look forward to seeing some real world shots with it.

mark, don't forget though if you are upgrading then you put the cost of selling yours against it, so thats a grand, so it's a £2000 upgrade - sound more tempting? :lol:

For me the AF is very appealing, as is the improved ISO - I like to shoot at high ISO so any improvement is good for me.

Also the shutter speed restriction on the auto ISO I would love. Means I can stick it in Av, put a minimum shutter of whatever my lens focal length is and then let the camera adjust the ISO if the shutter ever drops below that speed. I've seen that on nikons and wanted it for ages!

I'm looking to get a second body so it makes sense to get this for me
 
I'd only be upgrading a canon, never the N word!
To be honest, the 5mk3 is way over priced in the UK in my opinion. And as for the specs? Full frame, would be nice, but my 7D is fine. Low noise at high ISO?
I almost never use anything other 100, and certainly never ever beyond 400, so there's nothing it it for me.
It's a real sting in the tail though at £800 more than the US is going to pay for it, the Camera companies are taking the mick I think.

thats pre tax, it's £500 more than the US, not £800 once you take tax into the equation
 
The D800E possibly depending on how lenses hold up on it, would likely not be until the summer/autumn though.
 
Not really. Nothing to do with being 'moved', just monetary and being realistic.

The 5Dc far exceeds my abilities as a photographer, the IQ is top notch and I don't require features like video or better AF for my needs.
 
I think the 5Dmk3 will be a good upgrade to my mk1, but I'll be waiting a bit.
 
Judging by the responses n the other threads, it seems there are some very wealthy people who can change at the drop of a hat, or at the least, without worrying about the financial side of things.

Myself, I just can't warrant changing to a new body at the prices touted for the new releases, although out of the four (D800/5D3/D4/1DX) the D800 is, on price, the easier to justify but it's the wrong camera for me. Moving to Canon isn't an option because of the cost-to-change and I can't stand the pap flash system on Canon.

It's going to be a (used) D3 or D3s, the latter at the right price only, and probably a D7000 as a back-up body for the video function, although I'm very unsure about having two bodies that aren't identical as I have now with my pair of D2X bodies.

It is the world's worst kept secret that the 5D3 is out this year, if you look at Canon's refresh cycle. So I, have saved up for this, in part anyway. And some people will trade in their existing bodies to part fund it so one doesn't need the full £3k.

What i didn't budget for was my tax return last month.
Accountants fee just came...
Car insurance next month. (MOT tomorrow)

and now iPad 3 is supposedly announce next week !!!?!!! (I am still on iPad 1 and it is slower now on iOS5 so i want to upgrade.)

All that in the space of a month!

Has anyone seen any trade-in figures yet from the big retailers? Will be interesting to see if there are any incentives for people to pre-order, although I guess selling private will still be the way to get the best return. :)
 
D400 for me... as long as:

a) its DX

b) Its not more than £1.5 on day one...

Otherwise I'm staying put.
 
I am thinking of realigning my gear with what I shoot most, landscape, with the little bit of street-photography; but none of the new Nikon releases appeal to me.

For my landscape, the D3x is more than outstanding and I see it being great until may be Nikon implement 16 bit :shrug:; for street-photo., I may well get rid of my D700 and some glass that may now be redundant and move to something physically smaller (D40 may have now outlived its' usefulness, as I haven't used that in a long long time).

Yes same here. D400 would be nice soon! Im hoping its marginally smaller than the D800 though. I would prefer it to be FX though but I think unlikely.
 
I'll probably aim to get the D800 but probably not straight away.
The 100% viewfinder sounds good, and a "real" ISO100 setting could be useful as well, but I will probably upgrade my PC first to deal with the larger NEFs.
I'm not so keen on gripped bodies so prefer the D800 to the D4.
 
An FX and not DX D400 is a possibility according to Thom Hogan... possibly also out there with a slim chance is a pro-bodied DX... which *might* tempt me, but have a feeling it would be over 2k.

My ears have just pricked up at that last bit.....
 
I am more interested in the D400 I think though not long had my D300 and it seems to be holding up well for me. If I wanted to go full frame I think the D700 would be enough for me.

Personally think the D800 with its 36MP is a bit high. Think had they set it around 24MP would of been better.
 
Neither the D4 or D800 inspire me to spend a lot of money at the moment. My D700 and D300 are ok for now.
 
D800 for me, put a deposit down and apparently top of the shops waiting list :) so day 1 for me. been wanting to go FF for a while now but always thought that if im going to upgrade then i'll get the newest out there for future proofing. So been holding off for the next non full body FF which is the D800. Cant wait :) Will be keeping my D300 as the crop factor will be nice for wildlife still.
 
yeah apparently so, forgot about that, but it will be nice to have a good second body anyway :)
