i want to experiment with jpegs to get some enhancement of certain shots
i really like and am fully appreciative of all the HD shots shown here..drool

i have looked up HD and got as far as understanding i need 3 images +/- 2 stops on the correct one...then blend them

thing is i have photoshop 2...bare minimum...so i wonder if there are better and freeware downloads i can use to satisfy my craving for getting more oomph out of my 6Mp 1/2" sensor lumix bridge toy

you mean HDR :)

I think photomatix is the leading one.... there's probably a free trial at least...

You can still do a HDR on photoshop :) Do a youtube search theres LOADS and quite simple to do aswell :)

after some fooling around...there is a lot to learn on that photomatix software...so impressive...but i think to get rid of the watermark its going to have to be £££

thanks for the lead in

Have you ever tried a contrast mask? I'd show you the effect, if you grant a temporary relaxation of the no-edits option.

consider the no edits relaxed...any motion forward is appreciable and received gladly

hey i just noticed the edit box...no wonder my bloomers havent had any cc on them
will always leave that open

Mr Crow I think HDR unecessary for that picture. There are no clipping shadows or blown highlights so you would be able to do a nice job with stacking and shadow adjustments if you want to bring out the detail and the richness in colours.

thanks andy...the originals were only +/- 1 stop

i will persevere withe +/- 2 stops and bear in mind the criteria you mentioned
its only a bit of fun just now but if i can see its use...i will use it..

i realise i will need to use a tripod as my auto bracketing only operates over the 1 stop margin...
on the tripod i can use the normal over and under exposure scales which go up to 2 stops

I'd use the contrast masking technique, doesn't look so false, providing you have photoshop, works really well.

If you get a halo around dark items, use burn on the contrast mask, something like 10% on the highlights. Similarly if you get shadows, use dodge on the shadows.

I used photomatix for 6 months as a free download and cloned the photomatix stamps out in photoshop. On smaller resolution pics there were not too many and then I thought I`m using it why not buy it. It`s great to use and no the shot above just does not need HDR to make it work. I use it when i have flat grey skies or threatening rainy ones I want to make look even more manacing. If you do a google for discounts you nearly always find 10 or 20 % off

yes i cloned out the stamps...
my ignorance of what needs hdr and what doesnt leads me to persevere with the other two suggestions which are sort of the same but you dont need 3 shots with over and under exposure to set up the material

its just an interest and if its of no use...i wont use it...but if i can get some mileage i will be overjoyed to improve the blandness of some of my photographs...erm digital images

cheers
