I think there are free programs that give more user control over photo processing so Googling "Free photo processing software" should give you some to choose from.

Packages that have very limited user controllable image processing capability and seem aimed more at cataloguing and organising shots on your pc just don't interest me at any price.

See above, if you have a use for this sort of package then I suppose it makes sense. Pesonally I wouldn't pay 50p for it.

Personally I use CS5 but I have a few free packages that I used to use on my pc. I don't know if they'd suit you so best if YOU Google and make your own mind up what suits YOU.

Well it does everything i need it to do, its basically a stripped down CS6 for 10% of the price, i don't use the organiser side of the program but any program that's good enough to help me earn a second income cant be that bad surely.

Personally I find the auto fix options too limiting and for that reason alone even paying 50p would have me in tears.

This post and my first post in this thread and every post I make here is... IMVHO.

I use cs5 extended, GIMP, picassa, and my fave LR4. I was just curious as to what you was comparing elements 11 against, to see if there are any packages I'm missing out in.
I've just tried the Nik advertised on here and for me it isn't worth the money.

GIMP cost I started with that and its free.
Cs5 extended *** I got it for a tenth of the price.
Picassa for collages
LR4 for all exposure and lighting and organizing

I dont use the auto fix options, levels combined with a few plugins makes it as functional as CS5 with regard to the editing i need to do.
 
I've had Elements 6, 8, 9 and a demo version of 11. I've used 11 the most and I get along with it and find it very easy to use. My demo version ran out today so it must be fate. I've been waiting for the demo version to finish before I made a purchase of it and I've just ordered it and saved £25.

I actually bought the editing side only from the App Store on the mac (well, elements 10) and its brilliant! Can't speak highly enough of it. I don't have the skills or need for anything more serious at this stage, so I think it's each to their own.
