Heat damage?

Hi everyone

I was out and about on Sunday afternoon in the sun (I truly hate the sun by the way) and I had the camera on a strap over my shoulder when I realised just how hot it was getting. I had only been out for 20 minutes and the camera was actually hot to the touch.

I’m sure many others have come across this problem but what’s this going to do to the equipment and how well can it deal with the heat? I was using a Nikon D300 and the new 35mm Nikkor prime.

Annoyingly, apart from getting a headache from being in the dreadful sun for so long I didn’t get a decent photograph. I'm blaming that on the sun as well!

sounds as though you need a hat , water and a lens hood , the camera and lens is black so it will soak up the heat a treat , will it damage it , i doubt it to be honest :)

I was out with my D300 yesterday to and it got mad hot, didn't do it any harm.

But I did get a couple of decent shot's though & really bad sunburn :(

A fairly simple (but untidy) cure is either kitchen foil or a bit of an old silver survival blanket, just wrap it around the camera and it's reflect a fair bit of the heat away, otherwise just drape an old (clean) white tee shirt over it.
I suppose the real danger is the heat melting the solder on a connection somewhere, or maybe frying a chip??

Thanks for that, I do like the idea of using the survival blanket. I'll do that.

As for wrapping myself up in tin foil, I think that's an express ticket to the funny farm:cuckoo:

Thanks guys

Especially if you make a hat out of it as well (but it does stop "them" knowing what your thinking!) ;)
