The North York Moors was badly affected by beetle during that warm fine spell in Spring 2020 and it was the worst year I ever saw for the dramatic purple expanses stretching to the horizon.
You could find quite small areas less affected. Some older plants looked all but dead from it and probably won't recover.
This year things are noticeably better I had chance to have a bit of a scout around yesterday and towards the coast is already looking quite decent in some areas.
It normally gets to its best relatively late like mid-August until mid-September and the areas with near 100% heather cover are higher up and later than lower down.

It has always had good and bad years this was 2019 (August 17th) it is not a patch on this so far this year

I'm no good at landscapes but I'm currently working in Hayfield near Glossop. The Heather is everywhere and appears to be in full bloom.
