HEIC files?

I'm sure similar things were said about jpeg in the early years after 1992.

Then how did my friend manage to email me HEIC images?

On the iPhone or iPad in ‘Settings > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC’, if it is set to ‘Keep Originals’ instead of ‘Automatic’ then HEIC files will be sent instead of JPEGs

if you want to send JPEGs, set it to Automatic

Assuming your friend is not using some other photo app, such as Lightroom Mobile, of course

She's purely a user and I would be surprised if any setting was other than the default unless one of her (adult) daughters had fiddled withi it.

If your using LR/PS simply save a copy to your desktop ,then rename the file as a .jpg .. works for me
