Hello,

I'm interested in getting a Helios 44 58mm f/2 M42 lens for my Canon 20D. I've had a search round on the internet but can't find much info on fitting it to a modern slr.

I understand I need an adapter ring, are there any that are recommended?

Also, I've read that infinity focus could be an issue, is this true?

Regards,
Edward

Im sure the helio lens is a M42 screw thread. adaptors are a few quid on ebay.

Also again could be wrong but there are certain m42 mounts which are a certain thickness to solve the infinity issue.

will stand correct if i am incorrect.

I bought my adapters from Amazon, less than a fiver each and very good quality indeed. I have no issues with infinity focus whatsoever.

The Helios 44 and Helios 44M (newer version) are excellent lenses for the money - I bought two for £3 each  Bokeh at f2 is creamy and lush.

The newer Helios 44M's are full auto aperture for M42 cameras ( ie they only stop down when the aperture pin is depressed by a mechanism in the camera ). The lens I had was a 44M-4 and was virtually useless on a DSLR as it couldn;t be stopped down past f2. You can get around this by doing some surgery on the lens if you have the time / inclination.

I got one on a zenit and its a lovely bit of glass adaptor ring will sort it out, get one with an AF confirm chip
