Hello all!
I'm from Surrey - I've dropped into these forums in the past and a lot of my friends are on here, but I just joined yesterday.
A bit about me for those who are curious (I won't be offended if you skip it
): ...I was a professional photographer (promotional and events), but I broke my hip (by carrying a rucksack full of too much kit while on a trip to The Western Desert) and that's lead to multiple surgeries. I kept hoping I'd be back on my feet soon, but it's now been four years and I have another surgery coming up in the next month or two. Earlier this year, when we realised walking (never mind being able to carry cameras, lenses, etc) was still a long way off, my husband suggested, as I've always enjoyed it, I refocus on retouching. I thought it was a brilliant suggestion so while I'm off my feet I'm taking some time to add to my Photoshop knowledge, learning everything I can from different retouching techniques to all-out digital art like matte painting. I plan to get a portfolio together somewhere towards the end of the year and then get back to work, even though it's not exactly the same work, in the new year.
I'm lucky that a lot of my friends (including my husband!) are photographers (some pro some not, all awesome) and I'm looking forward to these forums as a way to be involved in an even bigger photographic community.
As a small aside, though all the hip surgery makes me sound so old, I'm not really (though teenagers may disagree) - I'm only 31. Just sayin'
