Hi

I have just bought my first ever D-SLR cannon EOS 1000D, with a AF70-300mm lens, I have no idea what I am doing and reading the manual is like all 'foreign' to me

Every time I try to take photos indoors they just do not look very bright, I have tried the portrait setting and the full automatic setting and they are just not great

I am hoping that after speaking to Gillybean103 that recommended this site that someone may be able to talk me through in laymans terms and get me on the right path

Hello Debs thats very strange as I never had a problem with my 400D straight from the box (which is very similar in many ways to the 1000D)

really helpful advice, thanks!

It wasn't meant as advice, it was a comment.... what settings are you using, what do you want to take pictures of, how dark is it etc etc
If you put it on the green square setting (full auto) it should take a reasonable picture whatever the circumstances.... I'd also be inclined to think that the lens isn't particuarly suitable for general purpose stuff, haven't you got something like an 18-55mm lens with it?

I would add a photo to show you, if I knew how to add pics on this forum

I have the lens that came with the camera, plus a AF70-300 (I used this one for shots of my dogs at the field, they came out great) indoors however on the full auto setting or even on the protrait setting with the other lens (same as you mention) the photos just are not crisp like the outdoor shots, maybe it is a light issue, taking them in my kitchen and it is not the greatest of rooms for natural light

how do I post pics? bear in mind please that I am very very new to this, and I only got the camera yesterday

Thanks

Hi and welcome to TP. I too have a 1000D and like yamahapaul I think you'd be better off with the kit lens and use the green square to try a bundle of test shots to get the feel of things. The beauty of digital is that you get instant results - don't worry it's all fun and you'll soon be getting the pics you want.

It sounds to me as though your problems are more related to 'camera shake' ?

With regards to posting pics, I've done a guide, using photobucket (by far the most easiest way IMHO) on my forum, which can be found here-

(I hope this may also help others)

Or you can click on the link in post editor (replies) no 14 along from the left under 'message' (the picture icon is a mountain with what appears to be a square in the R/H corner) and follow the instructions.... I'd like to see a picture to comment further.....

Hope this helps? :D
