OK, so I've had a problem with my 30D for about 18months and it occured to me that i've never asked about the issue on a forum.
Basically, I was out at a rugby match and got a soaking, the camera stayed (mainly) dry...except for the delay in getting my cover over the body/lens combo. As you'd expect for April in South Wales, it became sunny and blisteringly hot after the shower...so my camera got a bit warm in the plastic bag cover!
By the end of the game, I'd been happily shooting away and not realised that I had a problem until I chimped a particularly good tackle sequence.
Of 4 shots, only the first 2 were usuable. After those a big purple colour-cast was over the entire image.
This carried on into the post-match celebrations and I figured it was probably due to the water ingress. So I left everything out overnight with a dehumidifier running in the small room i left them in. 2 days later they're fine. Dry and seemingly working OK.
Except...at ISO 3200 I was still getting the same colour-cast. So I sent it off to Canon RRC. They said "yeah, we fixed the problem...we've turned off your ISO expansion that'll be £80 please". Not helpful. Most of my rugby matches in the evening require ISO3200. So I sent it off again, they replaced a circuit board due to "minor corrosion" gave it a clean and sent it back again.
Still not quite right, in that whenever I use ISO3200 I still get a small section on the right of the image which is black in low light and green in bright light. I also get much higher noise from the right hand side spreading to the left-hand side of the image.
First off...
- Has anyone experienced a problem like this before?
- What did you do about it?
- How much did it cost?
I'm loathe to send it to Elstree again, as I doubt they'll do much about it. Was thinking of Lehmann in Stoke-on-Trent if necessary.
Any ideas?
Pics can be uploaded later on this evening.
