HELP! 32 v 64 BIT OS

Dhoo! I bought a lic for Windows 7 Ultra 32 bit to rebuild my system and I could not remember if my hardware was 32 or 64 bit. Just looked and my processor is 64 BIT capable "AMD Atholn 64 X 2 Dual core" shows in properties. I read up on this a little but I'm no expert. From hat I read 64 bit applications are still rare and expected to be a few years out still, should I load the 32 bit or exchange for 64 bit, which is not going to be easy, as in very hard (it's not opened but nearly as difficult) You help and advise is appreciated. the PC is very powerful and although it's 5 years old I'm rebuilding with a raid configuration and could see getting another 5 years out of it. Bit of a hot rod, PC DFI 590 Lanparty MB, the aforementioned CPU, 2x NVIDIA 9600 GT in SLI

I run office 2010 and run a small business on it
I run LR3 PSE8 - 40K images currently
I Game on it and use it for entertainment center for music & DVD
I play my guitar through it
and Mix and edit music and video
I think that is about it
 
I'd exchange. Especially if you are ever going to put more than 3G of memory in it or want to move the license to another machine that you build in the future.

BTW, a 5 year old PC run by an Athlon X2 won't be powerful by todays standards....
 
I was afraid you might say that yeah I have 2X2 RAM running as 3Gb now with another set of 2X2 not installed in anything I could add. Thanks guys
 
The total is 4GB addressable memory.

It's normally stated as 3.5GB as memory on your video board is counted along with some overhead for other things.

I would switch. Quite a lot is going to 64bit now so the support is their and you rearlly loose nothing now.

OEM Licences of windows are transferable if you buy a 32bit copy of windows and use a 64bit key it will work. Microsoft don't appear to make any distinction about the kernal type in the licence or at least that's been the case int he last 100 copies or so ive installed.

Yeah, agree the discs are all the same the key code determines what elements are switched on, that is also the part that cost money, it's an OEM disc but a 32 bit key, they would not trade keys with me over the phone/online chat. I've arranged an RMA to send it back and already ordered the 64 bit. It will be going back unless someone wants to pay me my cost 130GBP and save me the shipping
 
My copy of windows 7 came with two discs; 32bit and 64bit. The key works on either, but you can't hav both installed at once in different computers.

I'm not sure why yours would be different, install 64bit if you are able.
 
Just download or borrow the 64bit edition.

Your 32bit key will work fine. The Key is tied into the flavour not the kernel type.

We have imaged over 140 machines in the last 2 years and we order Windows 7 Pro in batches of 20 or 30 at a time and just order whatever is cheapest at the time (32bit or 64bit) theirs only normally £1 or £2 in it but when your ordering 20 :(

They all get a 64bit image and we just use whatever key comes off the next box.
 
Home and work both on 64-bit with no problems at all.
