HELP! 5D Fault

Morning all,

My MK1 5D has developed a fault.

When I point the camera down towards the floor etc, it's like something drops down over the sensor. Flipping the camera back up to the sky fixes the issue - until the next time I point it down. Any idea's what this might be? Since this started, I've also noticed a huge amount of sensor dust - specifically on one side of the senor - that a rocket blower won't even budge.

HELP!
 
When you say drops down over the sensor what do you mean? Can you see the change in the viewfinder? Could it be the focusing screen? Or even the mirror?

It's the Mirror that keeps falling off. Just checked with the lens off, and when I turn the unit upside down the mirror comes away (and back into place when I return the unit to an upright position .....
 
Common fault with this I believe. Do a search on the forum,I'm sure there was a big thread about it..
 
I may have imagined this but I thought that this was a free fix by Canon ... worth checking

Yep - it appears so. :thumbs:

Just wondering about the turnaround time though. Shot a wedding yesterday with it (I use it as the main camera, and I do have a backup) and my next one is less than 3 weeks away. I hope I can get it turned around in time! :shrug:

Be as well to give them a call and explain, see what they can do :thumbs:
 
Yes it's still a free fix .. They will normally replace the whole mirror assembly so the camera will be torn to bits. I used this to haggle a shutter replacement in without labour cost.
 
Just a quick update for everyone that's interested. I sent the camera off to A J Johnsons in Scotland for the repair. Turn around was about 5 days door to door. Brilliant service.

All sorted now!
