Help ! Battery problem I think

Is this following a simple charge or are you using the refresh facility. A full charge will take about 6-7 hours IIRC with the Canon supplied charger.

Okay, sorry, I can't really help then. The Canon charger has two buttons per side (charges two batteries together) and you get the option to charge or refresh the cells.

Silly question but I've no idea what charger you're using....does the green LED simply mean that it's charging and the red one that it's not? Maybe leave it on for a few hours and see what gives (unless the charger instructions detail otherwise).

how old is the camera / battery. Batteries have a finite life and I must admit if I was buying a secondhand 1d or 1d2 I would be disappointed but not surprised if the battery was not holding charge.

There is different types of battery and some get a memory effect.

Does your current mobile phone hold its charge as well as it did when you first got it?
 
Does the camera have a battery indicator? Does this say full then nothing after 5 mins or just no charge in the battery?

I'd possibly suspect the charger. Can you let it go until this evening and try again?

I have an oem charger for mine for the car, but hardly use it, prefering to use the original charger as it gives more consistant results.
 
You may need to "condition" the battery. On the Canon charger it will do it for you. Looks like the one you have doesn't have this facility.

You could try and discharge the battery via a low voltage bulb. I made one for my 20D and 5D batteries with a bulb holder and a 12v lamp from Maplins. It's very Heath Robinson, but works.

Try draining the battery completely this way, then see if it charges up. I tun the BP511 through two cycles every so often. Are you sure the charger is working correctly? Any way you can get the battery to a Canon charger to see if i makes any difference?
 
Of firstly, when the battery is placed in the camera, it has full bars. Then it after a bit of use, it suddenly goes to half and dies and starts blinking.

Unfortunately the OEM charger doesn't have a condition button and I don't have a original charger handy or know anyone with one either.

The battery Im using is a original NP-e3. the camera has done 40k clicks. assuming normal usage, this would imply that the battery hasn't been charged often (40times assuming 1k shots per charge)

i've ordered a cheaper OEM replacement battery off the bay, and I will try that later during the week.

If it's OEM then it is a genuine Canon one. Saying the charger is a non-Canon OEM one is like.....
