HELP Canon 5D power failure

:gag:A Canon 5D that I have is refusing to power up. It is showing no sign of life what-so-ever. I have tried different batteries and batteries that work okay in another 5D. Has anybody else experienced similar problems or more importantly does anybody know of a fix.

There's a small microswitch behind the CF card slot door....the body won't power up if this isn't made.
Just a quick idea.

Hi Thanks for that not seeing it, any information as to how to locate it? Is there anything on the canon website?
Its the mark 1 is it in that body? will have another look

I don't have a 5D to look at but it is on the hinge side of the door I seem to remember.

Failing that its possibly the DC-DC card which is basically the fuse and voltage regulator, blew on my old 40D and not that uncommon apparently

With a quick look I can't see the switch either but if you look for little plastic tags sticking out you will see them and the holes they go into. I guess that the switch is down the little hole...

Is the door and tag intact, shut etc...

The switch should be visible in the hole, sticking up at about 45 degrees.
There should also be a small plastic lug on the battery door that fits into the hole to depress the switch when the door is closed.
 
Great thanks for that, I am back to work on Tuesday so will give it a go then .;)

Hope it works its a bit costly sending it to canon to get repaired so if I can do it myself

Sent it of to get repaires will have to wait and see how much that costs.

To heir a 5D mark 2 they were looking for £400 + vat :cuckoo:

Getting it fix not any beter HELP

£570 quote to get the 5D repaired :cuckoo: they think it might be 3 circuit boards

Whats the price for a new or second hand.

Thanks for that soled already and it went for the same price as getting my own one fixed not sure which way to jump.

will keep looking, dont need a new camera till next year when the weddings kick in.

A 5d mark 3 might be out by then.

Sounds like a fuse, the main power one as the motherboard one gives some signs of life but errors on the screen.
