Hey everyone! I'm new to here, and also new to photography in general. I do know that it is something that interests me greatly, though. Basically, I want to buy a camera. I'd like it quite portable, but it needn't fit in my pocket, just in a small compartment in a bag or something. For this reason, I am thinking about getting a compact digital. I would like a very good general purpose camera, with good zoom functionality, but I'm also very interested in macro photography (especially that of various small insects, arachnids etc.). I'd like it to be a camera that will last me a good few years. I've had a look around, and I have yet to see a commercial compact digital which far exceeds my budget (I can pay anything up to around £500). Here are several cameras that have caught my eye:
Canon Powershot G10
Canon Powershot SX1 IS
Sony DSC HX1
Panasonic DMC FZ28
Which one of those would you recommend the most highly? Maybe you can think of better compact digital cameras for me? Maybe you think I could find an SLR better than them all, which is not too big, and also not too pricey? Thanks greatly in advance.
