I am about to purchase a Canon 70-200mm lens and i was wondering if anyone owns one of the these and how your lens performs. I am really struggling to decide whether to purchase a lens with IS considering the extra cost or even if i should go for f2.8 or f4.0. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I will buy one of the following and was hopeful someone could give me some advice. This lens will mainly be used for portrait photography.
Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS cost approx £1479.00
Canon 70-200mm F2.8 NON cost approx £935.00
Canon 70-200mm F4.0 IS cost approx £939.00
Canon 70-200mm F4.0 NON IS cost approx £490.00
Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS cost approx £1479.00
Canon 70-200mm F2.8 NON cost approx £935.00
Canon 70-200mm F4.0 IS cost approx £939.00
Canon 70-200mm F4.0 NON IS cost approx £490.00

When i use it close to fully open (f3.5 - 4.5), the image quality is superb, with nice background blur. Generally i use it for panning to obtain motion blur when required, and find it easy to hold, it is not too heavy, I use one of those crumpler bags to carry it.
