Help-deleated pics on card

Yesterday I thought I`d up my game and shoot in RAW, then I bottled it a bit and shot in RAW/jpeg.
I got home and attached the camera to the laptop and started downloading- I have always ticked the box `delete after`- after 10mins or so I went back to see an error message along the lines of `not enough disk space and 3 options,1.retry(did it twice) 2.skip file and 3.skip all files with this error.

After trying no`s 1 then 2 I hit 3 and all was well-until they had finished down loading-I had attempted to do a panaromic shot,so I stood still and took 3 pics overlapping of the area I wanted, i did this left to right and back again, these pics were not on my computer and as I had hit deleate after, I can not access them from my pc or camera.

Can I recover them? I have taken the card out of the camera just incase on of the family pick it up.

Thanks for your time

Ray

P.s. I cleared a lot of space on the laptop`s hard drive the day before by putting a few hundred meg of pics on dvd and sending them to the bin and clearing it after so it should not be a H/D problem, as the next card I tried went straight on but that was jpeg only, both cards are 4gb

In the future I would recommend you don't delete the files automatically after copying. Leave it until you are sure you have copied everything you want and then format the card from the camera.

Good luck,

Thanks, I thought the second bit when I woke up at 0200 this morning, and could not rember the pics being there.

Every days a school day

Tom's advice on not deleting images until you're sure they are on your hard drive is very sound.
If the software he recommends doesn't do the trick I think I have Rescue Pro which comes with certain Sandisk cards. I will happily send it to you, so you can try that.

Thanks Trevor, i will try the link with everything crossed first.

I am confused about why you consider shooting in RAW as upping your game?

Personally, I think shooting in purely jpeg is upping your game as it means you have to get it right in the camera, first time, every time :)

RAW is the safer option imho.

Not everybody knew that-but I do now-hence trying raw

Sorry Ray, hope I have not confused you, I was trying to be humourous (or I thought I was :) )

Just trying to point out that when shooting JPEG you do not have to get everything right in camera, first time, every time, although it helps.
There is still quite a lot you can do to a JPEG in post processing without quality issues becoming a major problem.

Yeah, wasn't that humorous tbh ;)

Things like white balance and exposure are a hell of a lot easier to change in RAW than jpeg. Which are things that a person newer to photography are going to get wrong more often than not, and relying on the camera to get it right doesn't always work either. Yes you can edit a jpeg, but sometimes its not worth the time it'll take messing around with it.

RAW is much safer to shoot than jpeg.

Morning, now it is loading up to a point and I am getting an error message.
The following error has occurred while importing IMG_1161.JPG;
The system cannot find this file
3 options
try again(then this window pops up, instantly)
skip this file, get this window and next file number
or skip all files with errors.

Thanks
Ray

I just checked I can view them on the camera, but they are not downloading

Give Piriform Recuva a go, it's free software for recovering deleted files. The link to is: http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Thanks for the link to Recuva. Always good to have something like that on hand. :)
