The dial on my cannon 1000d that you use to select aperture, shutter speed, iso etc has stopped working. Any ideas on what might have caused this and how I can fix it?

Is it the one on the back (I will be honest and say I've not used a 1000d but they all tend to work in a similar way)?
If so has the master switch that turns the wheel on and off got knocked accidentally?

I'm pretty sure the 1000D doesn't have the rear dial - you push AV+/- button (near view finder) and still use the dial on top (daughters 450D is like this
What mode is the main dial in - in Tv or Av you can alter shutter or appature with the rotating dial near shutter button, but if you're on the green square or any of the 'basic programms' on the main button, it won't let you alter anything...

It's just beside the button you press to take a photo. It's actually just started working again. Do u think the cold weather would affected it?

Possibly, possibly a bit of damp ?
How old is the camera ? Do youi have any warrenty left on it ?

It shouldn't have been damp really, I keep it in my lowepro bag with silica gel bags inside it. The camera is probably about 2.5 years old now but was bought through jessops so not sure how warranty would work since that is the case.

Yes it's never missed a beat. I was out with it earlier in the afternoon and it was working fine. Then went back out after dinner to capture a full moon over the shore line and it wouldn't let me adjust the aperture, shutter speed or iso.
About 45 mins of being back home it started to work again.

Would be a 12 month Canon warrenty, unless you took an extended warrenty out - I'm not sure who's covering this...

Does sound like it could just be some cold / a glitch, as it seemed to be working once it 'warmed up again' - I'd keep an eye on it and maybe get it looked at if you've warranty on it...
Hopefully, it's fine and doesn't re-occur

Yes you are probably right with the warranty - I don't think I took out any extended warranty. Yes let's hope it was just a glitch I will be keeping my eye on it over the next few days.
