I'm finally stretching to a new camera..I've always had cheaper cameras but myself and my wife are going to Mexico in a couple of months so I decided it was time to get a decent camera..I decided on the nex5n with the extra 55-210 lens...cost is £699....but here's my dilemma and were I need some advice please...do I stretch to the 7 which I can get for £999 with just the 18-55 lens...I like the idea of a extra lens with the 5n ...but the 7 has a viewfinder..also has a built in flash...can I get some advice please??is there a big difference???is the 7 still going to be easy to use for myself and my wife until I get used to it ??all help and advice will be apreciated

I would go down to Jessops if you can and handle both so see what you like. Due to the viewfinder the handling and usage of the NEX 7 is different to the NEX 5N but it also depends what type of shots you want to take,

Also for a compact system don't discount the Olympus/Panasonic range, excellent range of lenses and bodies as well.

there is a replacement for the 5N due to be announced shortly - if it makes it to the shops by the time of your holiday it will depress the price of remaining 5Ns.
& afaik the 7 is meant to be easier to use than the 5N (more controls).

but handling both is wise advice.

Eigher camera will take excellent photos, I have the older nex 5 and it a brilliant camera but i struggle at times to see the screen in bright sunlight and the flash is fiddley to put on the camera at times so you realy need to think ahead do you need to use it or not for some situations.

I would find somewhere to try them both out but the nex 7 would be my choice as a viewfinder and built-in flash makes life a lot easier.

I didn't know the 5n was due for replacement..any ideas how long before the release.any news on the replacement..can the nex7 be used as easy as the 5n for my wife to take snaps??

I shoot with an nex-5 alongside my canon 40d and don't understand the negativity towards the flash? I leave mine attached all the time and just flip it up for fill or to remotely trigger an external flashgun. It adds next to nothing in weight and isn't exactly bulky so I wouldn't use it as major negative.

You've already had the best advise which was to go and handle them both but from my understanding of your needs, I'd say the 7 is overkill and you end up compromising on lenses.

Cheers
Steve

If you could stretch to the 7 I would get that (as I did), it's controls with the tri navi system are more dslr like than the 5. Not to mention the excellent built in view finder & fantastic iq

The 7 is a little bigger than the 5 & is a lot more balanced looking with the lenses on.

They will both produce excellent results in the right hands

as I said my understanding is that the 7 is easier to use than the 5N.

Thanks for that..I go away end of August so I'm gonna wait till mid august then if no sign of the replacement I'll grab a 5n..but I'm gonna visit a local jessops to me who's got a nex7 first just in case I like it...looks like a lot of searching the Internet and playing at the camera shop is coming up

Think I'm going to get the nex7...but can't find anywhere near me that has any for me to look at!!!
