Help?? DSLR! Which one??

Hey all, I haven't been on here for a while. My passion for photography is still a big part of my life and yet I feel very limited with my olympus e420. Although a good camera, I'm looking for something a bit more powerful but my income is limited and I'd have to get it out on credit. Any idea of a good DSLR about £600 that is better than the e420? I mean, my photography ranges from scenes to family weddings.. My brothers, etc..

Can you elaborate on that? 'powerful' doesn't really mean much in terms of cameras.

If I were you, I would be looking at investing in some zuiko lenses, then upgrade the camera body (to something like an E-5) at a later date.

Olympus makes some phenomenal lenses like the 12-60 f/2.8-4 and the 50mm f/2 macro.

I agree with Adam.

I changed from an Oly E510 to a Canon 60d, there were many reasons for this - including Canons better performance at higher iso (which I need for low light wildlife, but that's another story!)

One thing to remember is that the biggest factor over image quality isn't necessarily the camera 'body' it's the lens on the front. In my opinion the 2 lenses every Olympus 4/3rds owner should have are the 12-60mm and 50-200. Both are fast, weather sealed lenses which give amazing image quality. They are expensive to buy new but if you keep an eye out on here and the Olympus forums good examples do come up at good prices.

You can always look at upgrading your body at a later date to something like an E5 or a second hand E30.

What you do need to think about though is whether or not it's worth your while investing in the Olympus system, or should you change systems completely.

Think I'm going to stick with my E-420, it's good enough for what I want right now, but I'll deffo be investing in a new lens and eventually a higher end camera - thanks for your advise

How much of an improvment in terms of zoom would a 40-150 lens be from the standard 14-42? Would it be worth £70?

It's a different type of lens to your 14-42, how useful would a field of view equivalent 80-300mm lens be to you?

If you're basically happy with the focal length range of your 14-42, I'd be saving the pennies for a 12-60 f/2.8-4
Phenomenal IQ and build quality and the 24-120 equivalent FOV gives it a wide range of applications.
