HELP - FF4 wont load

was quite happy with FF4
then a pop-up said FF5 was available ... ticked 'remind me later''
then yesterday FF5 installed itself............:razz:
i got a ''Add-on incompatibility Logitech'' message

and today FF wont open - just get a page with blank header and a blue edge

ok.....installed IE8 so i could get online here
it asked if i wanted all my FF 'stuff' added = yes.!
but zilch...none of my ''Bookmarks'' were transferred - and there were 100s

didnt un-install FF so the bookmarks should still be stored

what to do
download another browser.? Chrome.?
un-install IE8 and install Chrome to see if it will retreive FF Bookmarks

and advice in small words please - dont know what i'm doing really.....

IMHO FF has lost the plot over the last 18 months. Try Chrome - it should import your bookmarks (IE may well have done, just hidden them somewhere).

just did a System Restore to 01/07/11.....no improvement

maybe FF4 is corrupt....
so IE8 cannot access to retreive Bookmarks..? [grasping at straws....]

A...shall i try to reinstall FF4 from ''Downloads''
i fear if i un-install FF4 i will lose ALL my bookmarks

or B........install Chrome and hope it can retreive Bookmarks

Chrome install is only a few minute process... You can always uninstall later...

Sounds like there is a problem that may not be browser related. Every new thing you add becomes another variable for you to wonder about.

You could try reinstalling your internet connection.
I would not hold out much hope in getting assistance from a help line. They all seem to work from checklist and if your problem does not fit their questions then you'll get nowhere.

Oops... I'm only on 4Mbits, but it only took ~2 mins to d/l and install....

still unable to open FF4
downloaded FF5 [thinking it may instal and i could retreive my Bookmarks]

double-click on FF5installer.exe.......... ''File Corrupt''and SAS [SuperAntiSpyware] flags up ''Trojan''
and file deleted

Have you tried booting into safe mode with networking & seeing if you can redownload & install the ff5 installer from mozilla.org, or seeing if FF4 will run in safe mode so you can backup your bookmarks etc before you try anything else?

thanks.........decided - after a few beers [or 3], to try anything

so ...ran SAS again ...found and deleted Trojan .Agent/Gen-Banload...

ran FF4.exe from my Download folder ..bingo - it works and can see ALL my Bookmarks

these are now exported to ''Desktop'' as an HTML files and will also be backed-up to external HDD.............worth doing folks..

still dont know why a Trojan crept in on the back of FF5 but ......:shrug:
