Help identifying fault

Yes
Hi there. I bought a Canon Eos 100D last year. Last year it went back to Canon due to a fault.
They have been unable to identify any fault and have sent it back.
The problem is that sometimes the quick set menu button doesn't work when pressed unless the camera is in live view mode. I never really use live view mode preferring to look through the viewfinder so it's irritating to have to switch to that mode before I can change settings.
I really hope some clever person on here can help. Pls bear in mind though that I am not very technically minded. I am not even an amateur photographer. I just like taking decent photos of my family.

Many thanks

Have you tried a reset?
In the camera menu (icon is a spanner with 3 dots beside it) there is a clear settings option select this then select Clear all camera setting and choose ok then set, this will put everything back to "Factory State". This will clear ALL settings back to the same as it came out of the box. There's also an option to just reset functions.
Not saying this will cure the problem, but it has worked for me in the past!

Hi thanks. I don't have that option in my menu:(. I have looked elsewhere too. I might have to look in the manual... If I can find it...

Yes you do, it is in the manual how to do it!

Edit.
Switch to M mode
press menu
menu second from right
clear settings
clear all camera settings

I looked online and followed the instructions. I just do not have the option to "clear camera settings".

Ooooh. Just found it. Didn't know what "manual mode" meant...Sorry for being so dense

It is ok now but that button still only works during live view shooting. I have downloaded that guide. Thanks. Nothing in there to help though. I bought it from Jessops and I don't think it has more than one years guarantee. It is now more than a year. They didn't find the fault last time so it wasn't fixed. Seems as soon as it arrived With Jessops it was working fine again...typical

I could be wrong - and often am - but I recall vaguely that it might need 2 presses to activate? I'm only saying this as I'm sat in front of my pc and I've read your post and it's in my mind. Try it - if it makes no difference - I'm wrong.

No just one press but thanks for your suggestion. I think it must be a software issue as the buttton obviously works OK in live view mode.

I mean you need to press it twice - and the screen comes on :) I'm sure that's how it works on mine - but I'm not next to my camera body at the moment..

No I only need to press it once whatever view mode l am in. It worked fine up until recently. I can't see Jessop being any help. They were pretty useless last time when it was stilk under warranty. Now it's not so I won't have a leg to stand on. Should have gone for a Sony after all..

If it happens more often - and there's a record of it going back to Canon once under warranty - you could try sending it again and saying it's getting worse - can you please look more carefully...

I might try that but I would need to go through Jessops as I purchased it from them. They probably won't help as it's now out of warranty. I have tried to call a few times but it keeps cutting out because their phones are busy..
