Help! Lost files...

I had a problem with windows earlier and decided to reinstall... But only after the instillation did I realised one of my recent folders was left on the desktop... dohhh.

The install did save the old windows files in a folder but the files are no where to be found...:shake:

Luckily it was only the final edits and the raw files are still safe but it is a lot of work and I was meant to hand them over tomorrow..Oh god I hope I don't have to edit all of them again..

What if anything can be done????

There is software to retreive files in system but that doesnt help you right now sorry.

Try running a file recovery program. http://www.piriform.com/recuva is a free one. The best product in my opinion is Stellar Phoenix but this is not free.

Browse to where the old windows files were saved to, it should say something like: windows.old...

Double click on this file > you should see a file named users - double click on this > now double click on the folder with your user name > in there you should see a number of folders, one being desktop - double click on that.

Now just select you important folder and drag and drop it to your new desktop or documents folder

You should now have your folder/files back

saving the old windows files may not necessarily of saved your documents.

it try a couple of the free recovery apps, but if you formatted the drive and then put windows over the top then the chance of recovering your data has dropped significantly.
