Yesterday, on a whim I decided I wanted a x100 again. I sold mine a while back and bought an x10, which I replaced with a sony rx100 recently.

So I started looking, then convinced myself I'd be better off spending a little more for the x100s.

Then I start reading the threads here and think the XE-1 sounds just the ticket, but not sure which lens to get first..

Then I read about the XE-2 and think the fast AF would be great.

Then I start looking at the x Pro 1 and now I'm just thoroughly confused.

So, I think I've decided against the x100s now, even though I loved my x100 to bits, I think for the money, its silly restricting myself to just one focal length.

So now its between the x pro 1, XE1 or XE 2.

Not sure which way to go, the current offer on the xe2 is tempting, £700 for the body and free lens.. Or £150 cashback on the x pro1, or go with a second hand XE 1 and lens...

I've just bought a new MacBook Pro, so funds are very tight, but I'll sell my rx100 and my old macbook, which will take the sting out a bit.

Camera will be used as a general walk about, and street photography camera.

Someone decide for me please!

You've missed the extra special deals that Fuji were doing recently but there may well be some new ones on the way if you're not in a hurry. I love the X-Pro1 but it's not the fastest AFer in the world, hence the X-T1 I bought as well. The most used lens I have is the 18-55 zoom which should cover most of your needs. Relative newcomer to the Fuji system so can't comment on the older zooms or the other options than the lenses and bodies I have.

Just my two cents but if the choice is between x pro 1, XE1 or XE2 and you're not too worried about the OVF of the X Pro1 then go for the XE2 Tom.

At this moment in time it's faster all round than the XP1, including faster to focus, and has the split screen manual focus. It also has a Diopter built in which the X-Pro doesn't have which can be a PITA if you're a glasses wearer.

I was leaning towards the xe2. The OVF doesn't bother me too much. I used the EVF more on my x100.

I think I'd probably go with a prime lens, either the 18mm or the 27 to start. I'm sure the 18-55 is great, but I just love a prime especially on a camera like that. I've got zooms for the d700 and d5100, so I have all angles covered.

Then the XE2 would be ideal :)

From what I've read, the 27mm is not the strongest performer in the Fuji pack... the 18mm is a fine option, but don't discount the 18-55mm zoom lens - to call it a kit lens is a bit of a disservice to it in fairness ;) Otherwise, the 35mm is a stellar performer.

I had the XE2, XE1 and XPro1 at the same time briefly. I'd bought the XE2 figuring I'd keep that and sell one of the others but in the end I sold the XE2 as it didn't offer enough of an upgrade yet was quite expensive still. I think the XPro1 is a bargain at current prices around £400 but if you don't need the optical viewfinder and/or prefer a smaller body the XE1 is good value at 270ish (I'm quoting MPB prices so you may get cheaper elsewhere). The faster AF on the XE2 was not apparent to me but then I am quite a deliberate shooter. I liked the +/- 3 stops of exposure adjustment on the XE2. Photos from all three were indistinguishable so any sensor changes were tiny too.

18mm is a fine lens that gets a bad press for some reason. The 35mm is fab. I like the 18-55 zoom but also prefer primes so have just sold mine.

That helps, but at the same time really doesn't!

The xe1 is tempting. I could get a body and lens for less than just the xe2 body alone.

I guess I wouldn't know what I'm missing, as I've never used the xe2.

Hmmm.. Why is stuff so hard.

For what it's worth, I am very close to choosing an x-e2 and 35 f1.4 and with the current deal that's £700 through Amazon...

Me too, but then I keep thinking for £4-500 I could get an xe1 and lens.

My concern is I'd be stuck with the body until fuji send the lens, which could be 2-3 weeks.

Well, if you go for it and need a lens, I could lend you an 18mm but you'd have to collect and deliver it from Exeter.

I have to chase a three year old so the x-e2 is my only relatively affordable option.

Watched lots of reviews and I think I'm sold on the XE2. Trouble is do I buy new or not..

And that lens issue, thanks Nod for the offer, but I rarely go as far south as Exeter so collection and redelivery might be an issue.

I could just buy another lens, but then that's another £1k in total which I can't afford right now after buying the new macbook.

Go with the Fuji offer with the prime and then buy another from Panamoz?

OK I'll throw in my two pence worth here!!

I have X100, X-E1 and X-E2, along with 18-55, 35, 27, 14, Samyang 8mm, I briefly had the 18mm on one of the free lens deals

Firstly the 27mm is a great lens, and makes a X-E1/2 truly pocketable, noticeably smaller than an X100. Its not received brilliant reviews but neither has the 18mm, and the nuts and bolts of it, is that all the Fuji XF lenses are good lenses, though some are better than others!!!

I sold the 18mm as I knew I would be buying the 14mm, which is a cracking piece of kit, but back to the OP's problem, which camera to go for:-

If you want to take pictures of fast moving objects (even children!), want a bigger brighter EVF, then the X-E2 is a no brainer, if however most of your stuff is carefully composed with no time pressures then the X-E1 will do the job. Both these cameras produce great images, and I'd think you'd really struggle to see the differences in the sensors.

The kit zoom 18-55 is very very good, and much better than similar offerings from other camera manufacturers, it is very well made, and very sharp and I'd question whether you needed the 18 or 35 if you didn't want the extra lens speed (wide aperture). The 35 f1.4 is very nice though and superb at wide aperture settings. If you wanted to go prime I'd select 14, 27 and 35, though you could substitute the 23 for the 27, it would be at the expense of pocketability, and we all know that if you haven't got that camera with you, you won't be taking that picture!!

Most of the time the 27mm lives on my X-E1 and the 14mm on my X-E2

There are some good deals on both the X-E1 and X-E2 at the moment, remember that you can always sell on the 'free' lens to either make the package cheaper or to put the funds towards the lens that you want. http://www.fujifilm.eu/uk/products/digital-cameras/promotions/

I've got the X-Pro 1, an X100, X-A1 and have ordered an X-M1 earlier today along with the 60, 35, 18, 14, Samyang 8mm fisheye and a Jupiter-8 50mm

For I love the pleasure of using the X-Pro, but it a little out of it's depth on the AF front when it comes to dealing with an excited 2 year old and a puppy, the X-A/M1 makes for an ideal 2nd body as it takes up hardly any space in the bag and the articulated screen is very useful for low perspective shots

Also have a Nikon setup in my main bag so the Fuji stuff is for pleasure (which it excels at) :)

Personally, I don't like the small dslr for factor otherwise I would have the X-T1 which seems to be the best all round option at the moment, the X-Pro is an absolute pleasure to use and feels great in my hands, most of the time I use the EVF but wouldn't want to be without the OVF

I'm in Gloucester and have a FUJI XE-1 and the 35mm f1.4 lens as well as the 18-55 if you want to have a look at one.....

Thanks Jeff, much appreciated. Im hella busy at the moment, so meeting up might be a bit of an issue, but if I get some free time, Id definitely be up for that.

Think Im going to sell my old macbook and RX100 and see what the bank balance is like first. Ill then either go for the XE-1 and a lens second hand or possibly splash out on the XE-2 with the free lens offer, if I get the funds by the time it runs out.

Yip, I saw that thanks, but you need to buy the kit with the lens, which is quite expensive new. You could get the XE-2 and free lens for around the same.

Based on current selling prices, if you go for the XE-2 with 18-55mm kit lens and then claim the free 55-200mm you would be looking to sell these for about £750.00. You could probably then buy the 18, 35 & 60mm second hand for that. There's even a new 18mm for sale currently in the classifieds for £205.00 if you could also afford to buy this, whilst selling the kit and free lens, you have a prime to start you off.

Myself personally, I prefer the slightly larger size of the XP1, I found the XE-1 a little to small.

The offers are either the XE2 body and a free prime, or the XE1/18-55 kit and a free 55-200.

The XE2 body is just over £700 on Amazon

The XE1 with 18-55 is £600 on Amazon.

I can't see me using the 55-200, so would definitely sell that.. But then the XE2 is only £100 more and I wouldn't have to bother selling the 55-200...

Or I could buy the XE1 with 18-55, and get the free 55-200, also buy an XE2 body and get a free prime, but use the 18-55 until it arrived, then sell the 18-55, XE1 and 55-200 to buy another prime :D

Same difference.. still have no use for a 55-whatever zoom on a CSC.

I've had both the x pro 1 and now have the x-e2.

I prefer the build of the x-pro 1 but that's it. I never used the OVF so wasn't a big deal for me. For me the x-e2 sits better in my hand (small hands though!), is smaller, lighter and I can see a difference in the focussing speed (the x-e2 being better)

In continuous focus mode and with the 18-55, I find the x-e2 tracks a lot better than the x pro.

The x-e2 is pretty good value at the moment as well with the free 35mm 1.4 (which is a lovely lens).

So, I think I've decided against the x100s now, even though I loved my x100 to bits, I think for the money, its silly restricting myself to just one focal length.

Thanks to tele/wide conversion lenses X100 can do three focal lengths now (19mm, 28mm and 33mm). That is 28mm, 35mm and 50mm in full-frame equivalents which is actually quite good for general use.

I think the X100S is the sweetest spot in Fuji's lineup. A hybrid viewfinder simply works best with fixed lenses. X-pro1 is also good, but for me Fuji lens selections can't match Canon/Nikon systems and can't replace a DSLR for me (there are no tele lenses, macro lenses, ultra-wides, etc.)

X100/X100S are unique due to compactness, performance and optical performance. That would be my choice.

In fact I am happy user of X100. Recent firmware updates almost turned it into X100s.

A small amount, yes. No really a massive issue. The lens is free, any resale value is better than what you paid for it.

For the cost of the X100s and all the adapters, you are getting into D800 price territory! Just not worth the cost.

Im keeping all my DSLR kit, I only want a smallish carry around kit that Ill enjoy using. The sony RX100 is fine, but I just don't get excited by it, which in turn means I don't tend to use it. I took my X100 and X10 everywhere, as they were fun to use. Im hoping the XE1/2 would be the same.

Another option, which I think only Wex are doing is the XE-1 with the 27mm lens for £429.00. As previously mentioned, this will make the camera more pocketable. Another thing to consider is that the 27mm lenses have been selling for around the £250.00 mark on ebay,(if not suitable for you). The body then costs you very little money and you could probably sell for a profit if you find the AF not fast enough for you and you want to change to the XE-2.

Decisions decisions, it's so easy for us spending someone elses money.:)

That sounds more reasonable, I hadn't seen that offer. Thanks

To me it's a good deal, I have been considering the 27mm myself. As I have just bought a 60mm and I have an expensive month, I can't afford it yet.

Its a cheap way to enter the system for sure. Money is tight at the moment here too, and although the xe2 with free lens is cracking deal, especially if you get the 35mm, I just can't afford it yet.

I'll list my old macbook up soon, which should see me get a fair wad of cash and also my rx100 and I'll see how my finances are.

Yeah I saw that, but then its over £1k to get the xe-2 and the 18-55 kit, which is a lot of monies at the moment.

I really shouldn't convince myself I need something when Ive just dropped £2k on a new computer!
