Help me decide on my next lens please.

It's my birthday soon and I'm treating myself to a new lens (with a little help from family and close friends). [S4]woo[/S4]

I have the Nikon 18-105 kit lens & the 35 1.8G at the mo.

It's a toss up between the
Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM
and the
Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1 Macro

hmmm, wide or macro :thinking:
 
Two entirely different things, so only you can decide which you want.

If you want to shoot macro, then the macro, if you want wide, then the wide.
I dont think any of us can help with this one.
 
I'll be getting both at some point, as I like both wide angle landscape and architecture shots as well as ultra detailed macro. Don't really know how to take good photo's of either kind yet but I can learn.

I'm not after an in depth which is better, or which would be more suited to me type answer, just canvassing others opinions I suppose.

Maybe I should re-phrase the topic tile as "What's your next lens going to be, I'm thinking of..."? :)

Have both of the lenses and also a 55-200mm.
I'm adding a wide angle (tokina 12-24mm) because I find that in many occasions the 18mm wasn't wide enough and I end up changing the composition entirely. Travelling around europe in particular, as well as the city shots.

Never been interested in macro so I don't need a lens for that but thats just preference.
 
Any chance of going for the wide angle and also buying a set of close up filters (mine cost £28) to give you a taste of close up photography until you go for a real macro?
 
Well, Ive had both, and both are great at what they do. I suppose the macro is more versatile as you can use it as a medium telephoto for portraits too. The wide is much more restricting, but fun to use.

My next lens will be a wide of some sort. Haven't decided yet though. The options for full frame a bit limiting without spending huge amounts.
 
I have both lenses and I would suggest the 10-20 first then wait and get a tokina macro lens, I had the tokina for my canon and it was brilliant, sold all my canon gear moved to nikon and couldn't find a good 2nd hand tokina so went for the tamron 90mm and to be honest it hasn't blown me away and does not feel as well made as the tokina imo.
 
I've the canon fit sigma 10-20 lens and am very pleased with it. I don't have any issues with it. If you look at the flickr account, these were taken withe the sigma lens

Maybe. I think I'm leaning toward the wide angle at the mo so could look into close up converter for my 35mm :thinking:
 
It's arrived! :D

Feels nice and heavy, can't wait to try it out. I suppose I have to put it back in the box until Saturday though :|
 
Its certainly the one I would have gone for.....I'd love a macro but the UWA would get way more use
