Hi all, I have wanted a 10 stop for about a year now but ive yet to purchase one mainly due to the costs. I have decided its the B+W nd3.0 for sure but the bit i cant decide is which lens to put it on.

My choice is Sigma 10-20 with 77mm thread or Tamron 17-50 with 67mm, obviously the 67mm would be cheaper but would i then wish i had gone the 77mm?

Has anyone else purchased one and then wished they had for another lens? I am guessing I would use it mainly for seascapes which would probably result in the 10-20 but then again sometimes 10-20 doesnt work so well as the main subject ends up being so small. Its a lot of £££ for a filter so i would like to get your opinions before i buy.

Please help by picking an option on the poll and share your experiences

Thanks
Mike

If you get the bigger one can't you get a step up ring to use it with the Tamron as well?

That should be possible and that is what I am going to do with my 77mm 9 stop.

Are the £2 HK ones any good?

Ok it looks like the 67 to 77 step up ring idea will work a treat, i cant see any reason for this to fail.

I know a ring is just a simple ring with 2 thread sizes but from those who use them is there anything i should look out for when purchasing one, for example really cheap ones cross thread or struggling to screw on compared to more expensive?

KOOD 67mm TO 77mm STEP UP RING (says its metal) £8
Cokin 67-77 Step Up Ring (metal or plastic?) £5.16
EBAY - from as cheap as £1

Any reason i should be careful or are they all the same?

I bought a 62mm to 72mm step up ring from CameragearUK on Ebay. It was ideal, service and delivery very good. They are based in the UK and very helpful.

As others have said, the step-up ring is the best way -- at lest until you have at least one of each of the filters you need.

Get good quality ones -- I've come across cheap ones with rough cut threads that would likely bind on the fine cut threads of some lenses.

I've got a kood step up ring attaching my (welding glass) filter to my Tamron 17-50 (bought it on Amazon for a few pounds)! The filter has a 77mm cokin ring on it, then the stepping ring attached it to the lens. No vignetting, very happy really!
