Help me find a (very) lightweight camera

Hi there. First post!

I'm hiking the GR11 - a 500 mile trail along the Pyrenees.

As I'll be living out of my backpack for 6-7 weeks, I need to keep my base weight as light as possible.

So, I'm looking for a really lightweight camera which takes great outdoor photos for a blog, and possibly a few prints.

I guess I'm going to have to go for a 'compact' camera as all other DSLR options are too heavy. Do you guys know which compact models are worth looking at the moment, and also which brands/models to avoid?

Lithium battery compatibility is crucial (for the cold). AA batteries would be nice - but I suppose all these compacts run on rechargeable battery packs these days?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
 
Hi,
mirrorless interchargeble lens compacts are next best thing after dslr but they are not that small. Sony Nex is a good option. something smaller may be fuji x10 or sony rx100. have a look also at panasonic and olympus.

You're going to have to narrow it down a bit more. From your description, there are dozens of cameras that would do the job, from a phone-cam to perhaps a Nikon-A. Budget?

TBH, I'd go to somewhere like John Lewis (or somewhere similar with good advice) and look at some of the options.
 
I'd look at a Sony RX100. I had (until earlier this week) a Fuji X100 and it's a lovely, lovely camera but substantially bulkier than the Sony and no zoom, should that matter. The sony ticks all the boxes that you're looking for, though takes it's own Lith Ion batteries rather than AA's.
 
To be honest the choicees are endless. Budget would help and how wide do you need? I have a Samsung EX-1 which I use for a lightweight landscape camera and it takes lovely shots, the EX-2 is the newer version and appears to be excellent as well.

What do you mean by "really lightweight", under 200g for example?

I don't think you will find many/any higher end compacts (to give great outdoor photos) that take AA batteries. Not even that many cheap compacts take AA batteries.
