Help Needed Choosing a Canon

Hi,

I am new here, and I am in a dilemma of what to do. I know I want a Canon as I have a couple of L Series Canon Lens, 100 - 400 and 24 - 105.

I plan to do wildlife photography, and the odd bit of landscape. But mainly wildlife.

I have been offered a Canon EOS 1ds MK1

But I know it a bit old now, would I be better looking at the

5D MK2 or the new 7D

I can't push to the 1ds MK3 at the moment.

I do like the size on the 1D though.

Any guidance and thoughts would be cool.

Thanks.

I have a 5DMk2 and whilst I love it I have decided to also get a 7D.

Whilst the 1Ds Mk1 is a good and very capable camera, your 100-400L will act like a 100-400mm lens and for wildlife you may want the extre reach afforded by the 1.6x crop of the 7D. The 1Ds Mk1 is also quite old technology now and whilst it will do a very good job, the advances made in the last few years would make it a bit of a no brainer for me.

My suggestion would be 7D all the way, Faster MD, Better high ISO, longer reach, lots more MPs, newer advanced AF system, Micro lens adjust, wireless flash control, sensor cleaning, inclinometer and I could go on and on.

If you want a camera the size of the 1Ds Mk1 (size isn't everything I've been told) get a grip (no I don't mean mentally) for the 7D.

Oh, and finally, welcome to the forum

Have to agree with Ed, the 7D for me too (but then got mine yesterday), if you don't want to spend that much, may be worth looking at the 50D for wildlife.

I can't comment on the 7d but I have used a 5d for a few years. I then bought a 1ds mk2, great camera for landscapes but then I bought a 1d, followed by a 1d mk2 and the extra speed of focus and extra colour depth makes me now a 1d (what ever mk) man

There are canon 1d models on ebay going for £300 ish, below is an example of the 1d at work

Thank you, I have been looking at the 7D specs, and they are very impressive. Like the idea of a grip, think that will make it feel the right size for me.

Oh dear, think the credit card will be out before the close of the weekend.
