I'm checking out my lenses on a calibration chart and found my 85mm 1.8 Nikon is back focusing.

This is the weird bit. If I alter the value to minus 20 in the default value it adjusts the focus and it then no longer back focuses. If I put the same value in the saved value option it makes no difference.

I obviously want to set the value against this lens only and not apply it as a default against all lenses

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here - makes no sense :thinking:

what does your af-fine tune screen say

AF fine tune (on/off) = On
Saved Value =
Default =
List values =

also - do you have any other saved values?

I first set it up as

AF fine tune (on/off) = On
Saved Value = -20
Default = nil
List values = set saved value as number 01

This didn't change the back focusing when I re-shot

So tried on the default value only, removed the saved value and deleted the listed item

AF fine tune (on/off) = On
Saved Value = nil
Default = -20
List values = nil

Re-shot with this and the back focus issue disappeared

No other saved values, this is the first try at doing it.

Hope this helps with a possible answer, let me know if I've not explained that clearly enough

Thanks for you replies

The first part of this would suggest a lens problem but the second one is confusing!

Glad it's not just me :)

I'll do a bit more digging around to see if there's an answer to it, but thought I'd see if anyone could spot anything obviously wrong in what I was doing or had missed. Guess if I can't find anything it's back to the shop with the lens :(

sorry but got me stumped and judging by the lack of any other responses sounds like you might be best to see if there's a malfunction somewhere. let us know if you get it fixed.
