So I have been messing around (trying) to make a website. I made a crappy page but now I want to use a wordpress theme but every time I go to load one I have I keep getting this message

Install WordPress (2/3)

The installation can not be completed:

- You chose to install in the main directory of the domain adevlinphotography.co.uk, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain adevlinphotography.co.uk (path="/home/adevlinp/public_html/").You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
index.php

Can anyone help me please?

Tony

its basically telling you that you already have an index.php file in the public_html directory, which you need to remove and replace with the wordpress one so it can complete an installation.

This might sound a daft question but where would i go to delete it?

P.s Thanks for the quick reply ;)

in that case, easiest way it to go back to cpanel homepage, select the file management icon, it will probably open a new window, and from there you can go into the public_html folder and delete the existing file called 'index.php'

However, if you are messing around and not sure what you are doing - I would suggest installing wordpress in a directory of its own initially, rather than in the main public html directory [scripts installation will allow you to name and create this directory as part of the installation] and that way you know wp is going in a 'clean' area while you get it set up. Once you have it all how you want it, there is a simple way to make it work as your main site, I can send you the link when you are at that stage.

In other words, your wordpress site will be at www.websitename.com/blog/ to begin with. Once you have it sorted, you can make a few minor alterations and anyone typing in www.websitename.com will automatically be redirected to www.websitename.com/blog/

depends what you want really.... I would start by just doing the basics, so add a couple of pages and blog posts and maybe a custom header - all easily doable in the default themes. if you go into the dashboard, on the left are all the menus for all the things you can play with. Just click on the option that you want to do, and basically it is all self explainatory.

yes you can add lots of different themes, edit the themes via the css sheets to use your colours, etc, but start with the simple stuff like pages and posts and find your way around it first.

Im getting this message now ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://adevlinphotography.co.uk/wp-admin/

The following error was encountered:

This request could not be forwarded to the origin server or to any parent caches. The most likely cause for this error is that:

Hmm....I think you need one of the web techies, the domain wont work with a www either so something is amiss. It might be the dns servers have not updated fully yet as it looks like you registered it yesterday.

Quick question, did you buy the domain name and get the hosting package from the same company?

 ok, either wait until a techy pops by here, or better still, send a support request, they are used to absolute newbies not quite being able to get things sorted. Just tell them you want it running on wordpress, you have installed it, but cant see the site at all. ;)
