Anyone out there need a second photographer/assistant. I am willing to travel and have my own equipment. Want to gain experience in wedding photography. Please can any kind reason out there offer a lift up:|

Your location might help, many pros will not want to help train up the competition in their area so you may have to travel quite a way

well , i dont think an assistant needs to have any equipment of his/her own ,how good are you as a photographer ? i would say you have to be pretty good to be a second shooter ,are you up to it ? oh and welcome to tp

I may well not be up to the standard required to be an effective and competent second shooter but I need the opportunity to learn through experience. Anyone willing to offer me an opportunity?

You might be better off getting experience doing portraits etc and get to somewhere near the standard required tbh as not many pro's will take on someone who openly admits they aren't good enough for the job

Don't want to sound harsh but it's about usefulness.
With no gear or experience you can offer your services as an assistant. You'll be carrying gear and be well behaved and be a voice activated light stand. With the right photographer and the right attitude you'd learn a lot in a short time.

To second shoot you need all the skills a main photographer needs. A wedding is not the place for someone to gamble their business on someone who doesn't know what they're doing.

From a customers point of view, if your photographer turns up with an untidy assistant who he then spends half the day 'having a quiet word with', you'd not be impressed.
If he's charging you for a second shooter. but then only delivers one shooter worth of images? What do you think.

Best case scenario is that you're good enough to be instant competition stealing his customers.

You might think youve a lot to offer this but you need to see the other perspectives too.

Hi Brendan,

I echo what others have already said above. The problem I would have is that you want to improve your skills through gaining experience but I (and any wedding photographer that's doing the job correctly) wouldn't have the time to spare to teach you anything. Weddings are a full-on event and unless you can demonstrate a degree of competence - both technically and artistically - I don't think you'll get much joy ... sorry :)
