Help needed with Epson Printer..

I have been given an antiquated but brand new, boxed and unused Epson Photo 1200 A3 printer. Even the ink was still in its packets!

I used to own a Photo 1290 A3, and this seems essentially almost identical, though I understand it only has a top resolution of 1440dpi against its successor's 2880dpi. A few test prints last night were surprisingly good. The gradations of tone and colour are not quite up to modern standards, but it really isn't bad at all considering that it is something of a technology dinosaur.

My problem lies in the fact that I do lots of black and white work, and everything has a subtle but still annoying greenish cast - I have noticed a similar thing with cheap B&W prints from the machine in Boots, and when I compare results with those I got from the 1290 they are distinctly 'greenscale' as opposed to 'greyscale'. Can anyone help me with advice on setting up a profile which will remove this slight murkiness?

It will be a little while before I can afford an Epson Photo R2880, so it would be terrific to be able to get this machine properly set up in the meantime.

Google "Epson Photo 1200 green cast" - there are quite a few mentions of this but I'm a bit too busy to read them right now.

horrocks - a quick and dirty fix might be to go into the properties/ advanced section when printing, look for the colour management section and see if you have a specialist 'B&W only' option. I have this on my epson r2400. You might need to download the latest epson printer drivers and software though.

I remember having similar green cast issues on mine and this was a quick fix. I don't know if it's the best solution though/ if it limits the dynamic range too much. I don't do much home printing now, and even less b&w these days.

Thank you both..

..I did that and it brought me straight back here!

There isn't a B&W only option in the software, and I have the latest (youngest!) version. In seriousness though there do seem to be fixes floating around on the interweb. I have now had some success with setting up a profile for B&W by making some quite dramatic adjustments to the colour balance, brightness and contrasts and saving the settings. I've now got to go throught the same process for colour, which strangely enough seems to veer towards magenta and away from green!

Thanks again.
