Hi all im looking in to nd grad filters, im using a canon eos 500d with 18-55mm kit lens, as some of you know the front element of this lens spins to focus so im struggling to see how i can do this. All i need to know is, is it possible and if so what should i be looking at buying. Budget is tight so cant afford a usm lens.

Thanks in advance

Buy a hitech/lee filter holder and some grads.

Focus your shot, and then very carefully align the grad by rotating the filter holder without disturbing the lens.
Pretty much the only way, other than just holding a filter in front of the lens without using a holder at all.

Thanks for the reply think its a lost course trying to do this and i may have to either use photoshop after taking the shot or invest in a new lens. Whats a good budget lens that has a fixed front element

I used to own one of these lenses, I found using a cokin set, simply attach the holder, frame and focus the shot, then slide the filter down into the holder, it was a bit annoying at times, but nothing I couldn't live with
