Hi all, I have a shoot coming up where I would like to use a smoke machine, but there will be no mains electricity.

The smoke machine is 700W and runs of AC 230V 50HZ.

I have tried looking for portable power solutions but none of the consumer ones seem to be beefy enough.

Can anyone suggest an alternative as to how I could power this on location?

Also, do you think I might be able to power it of my lencarta battery generator? Probably not, but worth considering?

2 second google turned this up?

edit just to say it depends what you mean by portable and you dont specify that it needs to be portable.

Loads of places will hire generators from £25 so its not got to break the bank :)

Doh, of course I forgot about hiring one for the shoot :)

Many thanks all, I shall pop to the local hire place

Yeah, hire a genie. I don't think there's a battery pack on earth that will do 700w continuously. This side of a milk float.

Honda genies are the business, lighter and quieter than most. You will need more than the marked output to drive 700w though. I would take it along and try it.

remeber H&S with a genny ... petrol storage, no indoor use etc

sorry to use the H&S word  but it needs to be considered at least

also consider that the smoke machine will use a lot less power when it's up to temp , if you can work that into the equation somehow  i.e. warm it up, then run it off an inverter/leisure battery for the shoot ? you can run the engine on your car with the inverter attatched to the car battery to warm it up. lots of ways around it
