i guys. i am looking for advise really. before i start i am not a photographer so please ignore my lack of knowledge. my father is a keen photographer and he has expressed an interest in a 2x teleconverter. I would like to get him one for xmas but wouldnt know where to start or get one. it needs to fit a nikon d40x and support autofocus. what are my options. i have about 250 to spend on it.
many thanks
jamie

It probably depends on what lenses he will be attaching it to that will determine whether autofocus will be retained. Apart from topline Canon's it's usually a miniumum aperture of f5.6 so with a 2X the lens would need to be f2.8 if autofocus was to be retained. Using manual focus isn't that difficult, and the extra range a 2X gives is useful for wildlife. This was with a matched Sigma 2X on a Sigma 150-500. The Kenko teleconvertors also have a good reputation. No knowledge of Nikon ones I'm afraid.

thank you for your reply. i think it would be for wildlife shots. What would be the best i could get for my money that fits this nikon camera and where would be the best place to buy one from?
