In the Ts and Cs?
Getting used to seeing this kind of thing in competitions but not usually to that extent.

Does the comp. have a clause where it says, more or less:

`...and we get to use your shot for whatever we want, for as long as we want, even selling it on if we get an offer, and you won't get a penny or even a credit, sucker!` I wonder?

Why do people go in for these things? There are even `competitions` where you not only loose all rights to your shots, but have to pay for the privilege! Remember it's not just the winners who give up their rights, but every photo entered can be used by the bunch of chancers competition organisers.
If it was the best picture that won, decided by a panel of people who know some photography, there may be some point. But most of these comps are won by the people who can drum up the most votes from their family and friends, or even total strangers on Facebook who will click on anything if asked, like dropping coins into charity tins without checking where the money is going.

One of the reasons would be that they dont care ..or to the next level would love to see there pic used by all and sundry... I remember feeling like that myself many moons ago..

Too many photographers trying to tell other photographers what they should do with there pictures IMHO

My beef (and I think most people's) isn't with the people who enter, it's with the companies who run the competitions.

These comps are nothing but a cheap way to get a huge pile of royalty free stock images and the practice of procuring these images through such means undeniably devalues the photography industry.

When it's a bank or insurance company etc it can be put down to greed but when it's a company or organisation that have direct links to the photography industry then devaluing the practice that earns you your living is idiocy. There's a saying, "You shouldn't crap where you sleep".

I do think a lot of amateur (and pro actually) photographers are unaware that entering competitions often means giving over your copyright and I think even fewer understand what that really means, what could happen with your images, how they could be used and the damage that this practice does to the industry and I'd like to think that if they did know, they might choose not to enter.
