hi guys just wondering if one or more of you can help? i have a friend who makes things from stained glass and mirrors and she has asked me to take some pictures for her, so she can show potential customers her work. so i need to take decent pics!
how would you light the work ect please help

many thanks for your time guys

I'm no expert on the subject.

But the shot below was taken with the glass backlit.

Obviously make sure you can't see the light source through the glass.

Simplest set up is a sheet of white card/paper illuminated at 45 degrees by 2 light sources. This ensures the lighting is even. Then place the stained glass in front of the white card. Ensuring it's far enough away not to block the light sources illuminating the card/paper. Then take picture.

You'll have to experiment with the exposure to get it right.

thanks guys i was thinking about the two lights and lighting from behind so i will just have to give it a go
wish me luck

if there any good i will post on here

It can also work very nicely with an additional light source set to the side just to 'catch' the edges of the lead. It's possibly more hassle than it's worth, but if you can do it (and have the lighting available, it'll give you a bit more from the image as the leading detail won't be compelely lost.

Cheers,
James
