Hi, Just gone to try to charge my batteries and I am getting no lights whatsoever blinking or not blinking- the whole unit seems dead. It was working last week.

Anybody got any ideas re: a fix?

....failing that can someone recommend a decent 3rd party equivalent.

Thanks everyone

Extremely strangely, following me testing the power cable etc. I decided to get "technical" with it and give it a jolt via a controlled drop from about 4 foot..... and it seems to have done the trick.

However I am still not trusting it for obvious reasons, so the question re: the 3rd party unit still stands and does this issue sound familiar to anyone out there?

Sounds like a broken wire.

Probably the wire has been wrapped around the charger when you store it?

Most obvious place is normally at the plug end. If you move/bend the wire you'll discover where the break is.

If it is, you just need a new/old plug. (I've just looked at my one and it's a normal plug)

Unplug first! And then just rewire it correctly!

Any luck?

IT - works more times than it deserves to (Impact Technology!)

I've got a drawer full of figure 8 (?Telefunken?) power leads that have been supplied with assorted chargers and other power supplies over the years. I tend to keep one plugged in at strategic points round the house so I can plug in most things without searching for a vacant socket. Annoyingly, a couple of newer things have odd connectors so won't accept them. Luckily, those devices are used mainly by my wife!

There are a few options WRT alternative chargers - I now take just one on holiday and it charges all my cameras as well as anything with a USB lead and AA(A) cells (x2) Still need to take lappy/netty chargers and cables though.

eBay lists some 3rd party option in the UK but I'm also thinking a faulty lead.

Sorry for the lack of response on this guys. It was working so I was happy. Incidentally the physical lead is used on another Nikon battery charger without issue and to be fair since that fateful night I have had no issues!
