HELP Olympus E450 Versus micro four thirds

I own an Olympus E450. I have only the standard lens that comes with it the 14-44 mm

I like taking portraits and was looking at buying a new lens.

I am going traveling for 6 months and wanted a small camera that takes good pictures and allows me to control the apperture. While looking for lenses for my E450 I came across the Olympus PL2 camera and have seen some great deals

I just wanted to ask some advice. Would it be a good camera to trade my more bulky E450 in for without down grading the quality of my photos too much?

You won't be downgrading the quality of your photos as the E-PL2 has an almost identical sensor, it's the same size but slightly newer with higher resolution. What sort of lenses are you thinking of, just the stock 14-42mm or have you been looking at the 20mm F1.7/45mm F1.8 primes?

The PEN would make a great travel camera, plus there's some excellent m43 lenses available. You will however be giving up a viewfinder, maybe consider the Panasonic G3 if this is an issue.

I love portrait photography so would like to get a great lens that wont break the bank and ideally a prime.

Can you recommend a great lens for the Pen or for the E450 if I stick with it?

In your opinion do you think I should stick with the E450 or upgrade to the Pen?

The way Oly seem to be running at the moment I would opt for the Pen route.
Paying out decent money for a lens for the dslr seems daft when you consider that if that body fails the only dslr body they now make is around £1500.
While you can get an adapter to mount a 4/3 lens on a m43 body it makes more sense to me to invest in the m43 if, like you, there is no previous large investment in 4/3 glass.
