Help!!!! Please!!! Mac/Entourage/Emails

Hi guys

I have a macbook, with Office on. I want to use Entourage, but although it receives emails fine, I am unable to send emails. :cuckoo:

I am using a hotmail email account.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as its an application I would really like to use. Or if there are any other programs that do the same please let me know

M.S. recently sent me an email stating that they had altered their send/receive settings for windows live mail, (hotmail). The settings that I changed to, and that work for me are.
Receiving: pop server = pop3.live.com
Sending: smtp server = smtp.live.com

Usually, it's down to the e-mail address being set differently to the hotmail accounts address, where people are forwarding mail from their own domain to hotmail. Hotmail's SMTP servers (and most others too) will reject the mail.

If you get any error messages / logs that would help.

Can you make it work with Mail.app just to prove all the settings are correct?
 
When I send it says

The server does not support secure connections

Error code 17982

I'm not a computer person so I'm baffled. :bang:

P.s It won't work via the mail.app saying it doesn't recognise the password
 
From what I understand about Entourage... it needs the Server to have SSL certificate (secure Certificate) for it to work properly... as I don't use hotmail I am not sure how it works with them, but I am sure that it should offer this facility. Hotmail have an FAQ section? I have only worked with Macs and Entourage internally in an organisation with Exchange and when our certificate expired all Entourage clients stopped working. Unless someone knows the answer to this I would recommend having google about with the error code "Entourage 17982 hotmail" or something like that... you wont be the 1st person to have this issue... here have a look http://macosx.com/topics/entourage-17982.html
 
One more thing that may help.
Open accounts and double click on Hotmail which will open up the edit accounts window.
At the bottom of this window is "Sending Mail". Click on the "Advance sending options".
My settings are, in line order.
A tick in "smtp service requires secure connection"
No tick in the next line, starting "Override default" (The port No. shows 25)
A tick smtp server requires authentication.
and the "log on using" contains my email address and password.

Thank you everyone, but having spent all morning searching, doing everyones instructions to the letter etc it still doesn't work! AAAAaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggghhhh :bang:
