I'm going to York soon and want to take some photos inside York Minster.

It's a place that I know very well, but i've never togged inside it.

I'd like to get a range of pics, including some of the stain glass windows.

I'm just after some general advice on best lens choice, use of tripod (or not), creative uses of flash (or not), and best camera settings, and just some general inspiration on what creative things I could attempt there.

Kit at my disposal is per my sig below and a Sigma 10-20.

Any help, advice, tips etc would be very gratefully received.

May not let you use a tripod, check here info@yorkminster.org

Photography (including video) for personal use is free.
Photographs may not be taken in the Undercroft.

The nifty 50 with it's 1.8 Apt would be my main lens, with the 18-200 as back up. Watch the white balance or shoot Raw.

From the few times I have been I think you aren't allowed flash (or it might have been mobile phones...or both!). Lens choice wise I would go for something wide and something with some reach. Wide for general shots of the interior and some reach for picking out the windows.

Last time I went I pretty much just used the Sigma 10-20 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tom_holmes/sets/72157603712570456/ - a few in the middle of that set).

But useful having the ability to get shots like - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/data/896/Rose2.jpg

Thanks for the advice Towershot.

Thanks JL too. Some inspiring stuff on your flikr !! I think I'll start with the 10-20 :)

Anyone else have any helpful tips or advice please...

I was going to mention that...a lot of cathedrals and the like aren't keen on the use of flash, but 2000 iso or so does the job nicely :)
