Hi All.

The problem I'm having is downloading a programme and windows media tries to open it, with a warning at the top of the page saying windows media cannot open this extention (zip).:bang: This is happening with more than one download. My laptop is running on Vista. Try to reply in basic English please.:help::help:

Thanks Dave

UNzip it first??

right click on the download link and select 'save to' or 'save link as' (something like that) select a location you can remember such as 'my documents' and then using windows explorer browse to that location, unzip the file by right clicking and selecting 'extract files' or 'extract here' and when finished you will be able to open the file that was inside the zip

OK, a quick google brought up this-

When windows gives you an error message saying that it
"Cannot open ZIP files", this means either:

A. You need to identify a program that can open the file
B. Or your registry may be damaged

RECOMMENDED:
In both cases it is strongly recommended that you
run a free scan for registry errors.

And also this-

Errors in your registry are one of the common causes for incorrect file associations on your windows system. It is highly recommended that you check your registry for file association errors (will also check for any other registry errors).

The ZIP file type is primarily associated with 'Compressed Archive File'. A .ZIP file is a compressed archive.
It can contain only one file or many files in multiple directories. ZIP utilities allow you to extract single files or a complete directory structure.

Just tried Karlos suggestion but unfortunatly still no joy. When saved as,I get the option of Windows Media or All files, so saved as all files but still tries to open in windows media. Will try the other options now.
Cheers dave

Is winzip free now? if not, try ZipGenius.
