Having read lots on here in the last week recommending that you use raw to take photos I decided to have a go today. I have downloaded them to my laptop but photoshop c2 keeps saying it can't upload them because they are the wrong sort of document. Is there something I should be doing first to change them from NEF files? I can see the thumbnails but nothing else. Feeling really dumb now. :bonk:

Try the software that came with your camera...

Canon has DPP, im sure Nikon has their own version...

I am still between two apps as I have only recently started trying Adobe DNG Converter.

At first, I was using Nikon ViewNX to process my raw nef files which then converts to tiff or jpeg so I can open in CS2.

I read on here to try Adobe DNG Converter, which works similar to ViewNX but converts to DNG format which CS2 will open, but it only seems to let you pick a folder where your raw files are and it will convert everything inside it unless you specifically put in the files in that you want, whereas ViewNX lets you view and selective choose which individual files to convert to jpeg/tiff.

I didn't have much look with Camera Raw 3.7 for my D90 as it needed a higher version of CS which I cant afford right now, but it might support your model as suggested earlier.

Photoshop cons you into buying the latest version to be able to edit RAW files from newer cameras - try the trial of lightroom - MUCH better suited to editing pics than PS!

If you want something quick dirty and free then picassa from google is OK.
