Help required for drag racing pictures.

Hi, please can you help me, with which lens to use on my Canon EOS 500D.
I have recently been to a drag racing meet and was trying to take some pictures with my camera. I have to lenses which are EFS 18-55MM IS AND EFS 55-250MM IS. Please can you help with helping me choose a correct lens to either cheap or mid-range so i can improve my pictures.

Whilst the lens can help, the technique is more important. You need to learn to pan, to get your settings correct for the light conditions. I wouldn't rush buying a new lens until I had the basics in place.

Post some images here, say what you feel is wrong, there are many motosport photographers here who will be happy to help you.

A friend of mine frequently photographs drag racing and gets images published; she learned with other folks castoffs before settling on what suits her.
 
From my experience of drag race meetings, I'd have thought the 55-250mm would have given you plenty of versatility with regard to framing your shots, if you're talking about capturing the cars. If you're not happy with the results you are currently getting, perhaps there is something in your technique that needs honing.

As others have said, if you can post up some examples of ones that you are not happy with, or feel could be improved, it makes it easier for others to give feedback.
