canon 50D + EFS 10-22 Lens
had the reddish dots on a couple of prior occasions but never had the blue which appears in the centre of the picture, the hexagonal shape leads me to think its the sensor, but is this a dust relater problem or a sensor issue?
The lens is only 5 months old and the camera just over 2yrs.
The dots are there on this series of shots and when I used the setup again in Keswick no issue.
With the red dotd they can be taken out if I zoom in to around 14mm which is why I am confused and not sure if its the lens.
But this is the first time I have had the blue dot become noticible.
Only happens with the UWA lens  which again makes me think lend and not sensor.
please help a confused sole before I go back to the shop about the lens

I do not think it is sensor or lens. The efect is coused by sun light striking the lens directly. A common problem in contra joure shots. Next time check your lens shading.

Thats a relief, thanks guys, guess I better buy a hood.

If you use the hood that comes with the lens, that's sufficient. Anything else will either give you vignette, or be useless. Stick with it.

The problem is that you let a light source directly into the lens, which is what causes the flare. In the future, find a shade away from direct sun, and shoot slightly away from the sun, or any other bright light source. Think of it like using a brim of a hat to block the bright sunshine from your eye. It's not how big the hat is. Slight adjustment makes all the difference.

AFAIK Canon don't give you a hood with this lens. It takes (AFAIK) an EW83E which will rush you in the region of £35.

Such a mean price when Siggy and Tamron normally give you a hood with the lens

As above, a real pain that Canon don't supply hoods with the majority of it's lenses - generally has to be an L before you get one

Quick look on Amazon -- £7.99 for aftermarket one, £28 for genuine one
