help viewing nef files (not what you might think)

i have just bought an external hard drive(1tb lacie) and transferred all my pictures to it, my problem is that i cant see the thumbnails when i open a folder from it. i have a thumbnail converter/viewer on my system which has no problem displaying from the pc does the hard drive miss this when i open direct from it.if thats the case how do i solve this help for a comp numpty would be greatly appreciated cheers in advance mike :bang:
 
are u sure that there is anything in the folders on the external hard drive...i managed to transter folders but not the contents once...but dont ask me how
 
definately as they link direct to photoshop and photoshop says missing file if i forget to turn on the external hd
 
sorry i'm no nerd......they seem a bit thin on the ground this weekend

sorry missed this reply ive got a bad cold so been in bed most of the morning
here,s what happens all my pics are on the external hd if i edit a photo and then try to upload to flickr (for example ) when i open the location it says this folder is empty the folder has 2gb of pics in it which i can see in photoshop it just seems like flick downloader can,t SEE them:shrug:
 
no i,m not trying to upload nefs to flickr i just want to be able to see them when i browse my folders it says no files in this folder but some of them have 2gb +in them :shrug:
 
you wont be able to see the NEF's within that uploader dialog though, it will only show compatible files if i remember rightly.

or is it every explorer window that has the issue? im slightly confused as to whats going wrong to be honest.
 
thanks niel i think iv,e got it its the uploader that dosn,t see my files not the computer does that sound right :bonk:
 
thats right, flickr will only see files it can work with by default :)

you can try popping:

*.*

into the filename box and hitting return and it should show everything. however selecting them for use with flickr uploader will probably cause issues..
 
i get it now when i save a jpeg for flickr ,it goes in a different folder so isn,t in the same location. i open the folder it is in as a nef file and flickr can,t see it . i take it i need to convert all to jpeg just to be able to see them in flickr uploader.


edit what does *.* do confuse it
