I have decided that I want/need a longer prime lens to compliment my sigma 50mm 1.4. I here great things of the canon 135mm f2 lens but I'm also attracted to the slightly faster sigma 85mm 1.4.
But I can't help thinking that I'm probably going to have to stop the sigma down to f2 or there abouts to get maximum sharpness where as the canon is meant to be pin sharp wide open.
On paper the sigma is faster, but is it in the real world??

I have the Siggy 85mm and I find it sharp enough at f1.4. Here's some examples, each is at f1.4 and in each case a whole image is followed by a 100% crop. These are via photobucket so they may be slightly mangled but they look good on my screen :D

I think it's a good lens and probably better than the Siggy 50mm.

That's a good help and thanks for taking the time to do that for me

Actually, this might help... A little test sequence, full image and then 100% crops from f1.4 to f2.2. Again via photobucket...
