Help. Which would you rather have ?

OK, i am now in a position to be buying either a 5DMk3 or D800 (decision changes daily), anyway, i currently have a 5DMk2 and a new Nikon D7000.

My dilemma is, do i sell the 5D Mk2 for £900ish (about 3 years old, used alot and coming to the end of its natural life) or sell the D7000 for about the same (about a month old with only 2K clicks on it).

Currently, selling the 5D Mk2 before it passes away would make financial sense as it is out of warranty and will be worth nothing when it does.
However the IQ is far superior to the D7000.
But the D7000 is under warranty and can cope with most things i throw at it albeit not as good as the 5D Mk2.

It depends on what your use is going to be and what investment you've got in glass.

I went with the 5D3 as I had a fair bit in lenses plus I wanted the better high ISO, although the huge resolution of the D800 appealed.

My friends who've got the D800 say that they are superb but you really need to shoot off a tripod with mirror lockup to get the best out of them (not an issue for my stuff but would be for some).

I hate to sound negative but seeing as it may well help your decision, D7000's are currently listed on Amazon for just over £700. Maybe the price is dodgy but even Currys have them brand new for just over £800.

Realistically, used prices are more likely to be around £650.

For what it's worth though, and assuming the maths stack up, I'd be far more inclined to keep the 5D, especially if you end up going for a MK3. Got to be something to be said for using the same lens system on both bodies.

As for the price, its not just the body, got lenses to go with it. :)

The same body makes sense at something like weddings, but elsewhere wont matter. It woudl be very nice to have 2 FF to shoot with, meaning i can rent the 16-35 until i have enough to buy it !!

I am leaning toward selling the D7000, just gutted i may be losing out on a couple hundred just because im making the decision now rather than 3 weeks ago

Sadly thats the way if often goes, but if in your situation I would be going for the 5D3, I think its the best of the crop when it comes to handling noise and high ISO's, its focus system etc is spot on and whether used or not it has pro level video capabilities.
The Nikon I feel isn't quite as good and the penalty for the high resolution is the not so good high ISO noise performance and massive file sizes.
 
sell the canon if you think its on its last legs, whats the point keeping it if it may fail? then get the nikon D800 and have a new back up... the D7000. But its up to you, everyone will come up with different ideas lol, good luck :)

Its just my perception. Had it 3 and a bit years,. Used it a fair bit, just being a bit paranoid that it may well fall over sometime. Ive kept it in mint condition, but i have a habit of things just breaking :(

Im torn between the 5d3 and the d800, more reading to do and maybe a practical test.

Tbh doing a gig with 2 ff bodies is something dreams are made of :)
 
Decided to sell the D7000. But only the body and 1 cheap lens. Other stuff is being sold elsewhere :)
Going in the classifieds now

the only thing that should give you grief regarding lifespan (like on any camera) is the shutter, but that could go pop after 10 clicks or 10,000,000 clicks.
 
But if you sold all the Canon stuff and went Nikon then your Username on here (CanonDad) would seem a bit silly. :naughty:
 
btw if the 5dmk2 is quite used 900£ is a bit of day dreaming, more like 700-800£ if you want to sell it, I've got mine like new with 3k actuations for 1000£ :)

Again. I got alot with it. Not just the body. :)

EDIT : That was quick, tell a lie, just been offered £990 with a 3rd party grip and 3 batteries, no lens. Still not selling though. Made my mind up.
