Hi all, After helping with my previous set up connecting my vista PC to Vista Laptop I now need help connecting my Vista PC to my new XP Laptop (Got rid of previous Laptop)

The Network on PC finds my new laptop but says "*********" is not a valid host name

Im connected to the wireless internet from Laptop so it picks some sort of signal up. Im not totally thick with tech stuff guys but not far from it

Any help please! It was a godsend to print and access folder from laptop previously

So you have a PC and a Laptop on your Home Network/LAN ?

You want to access files/drive on one machine from another ?

I've not used Vista.....

* but have you allowed the files/folders/drive to be shared on your network ?

* Run network set up?

Can you see them in 'my network places' ?

Thats my limit.... sorry

Phil

I would LOVE to understand networks.....alas.... I don't Ha !

I seen similar posts on the net that suggest both devices need to have the same workgroup name and have same user account name and password on both?
Edit: Then again, this link probably contradicts!

Asterix

Where are you in Cheshire mate, I could pop over one nigh next week and give you a hand sorting it.

I'm near the airport :D

Are you trying to share files between the 2 computers?

If so...

You will need to enable file sharing on each partition you wish to share.

You will need to make sure each computer has the same workgroup name.

Finally you will need to map network drive (e.g. shared c: partition on pc a becomes drive G: on laptop1).

If you google the Bold terms above, you should be able to find instructions to help make it simple.
