Yes
We are out in Turkey at the moment and when I went to
use my D60 with the 18-55 lens today there is a strange noise
when it tries to focus on auto, it worked fine last night taking
photos of the storm raging outside ( did'nt get wet though) no
problems with the 55-200 any ideas anyone:'(

Can you focus it manually without any clicking?

I dropped my 18-55mm very hard a year ago, i definitely broke something inside, as when it goes between the 30-35mm zoom area it clicks, but it still works, and IQ wasn't affected.

Can't really think of what the problem can be with yours that you could have control over?
Just;
-Make sure a/m switch is fully in the A posistion, maybe it is in between and causing problems.

have you tried removing it and putting it back on again ? also have you knocked it as they dont like bumps on the front of the lens you may have knocked the gear drive on the zoom hth mike

definately no knocks or bumps, I am able to take photos fine on
manual not on auto, just a sound like cogs slipping

i see your on holiday you havnt got sand in it from the beech have you? might be worth checking the barrel

:( No sand we've been lakeside in Koycegiz, but we arrived seaside
at our home in Sogut tonight, havent had the camera out as yet.
Will it be repairable do you think or will I have to look for a new one
on my return?

As others have said, it's almost definitely a goner. Especially as there's something rattling inside! It's a good time to upgrade I say :p You could buy something with greater range. Perhaps an 18-105mm.

My partner wants to take it apart:eek: should I let him??

If he knows what he's doing.. :p But to be honest it's not worth sending it off for repair as it's the kit lens and if it's completely unusable then you haven't got much to lose!
